Academic fraud in high-profile college sports programs has been going on approximately forever. Everyone looks the other way, and always has. I had a very small personal exposure to this “underworld” decades ago and it was a real eye-opener for sure… I was a huge college basketball fan at the time, but after what I saw, I never looked at college sports the same way again. The only way to solve the problem is to stop pretending the players are actually going to school (the vast majority aren’t) and have the colleges run and fund, openly, their own professional teams — because that’s what they are anyway. If they want to field pro sports teams, pay for them above-board. The amount of $$$ and benefits (far, far beyond what is admitted to) showered on “student-athletes” (what a joke!) is staggering. Stealing taxpayer monies and student fees to subsidize these money pits is deeply unfair, immoral and unsustainable.
